Carleton North Regional Community (CNRC) Project Progress
LSD's, Villages and Town express interest to Minister of Environment and Local Government (ELG) thatey are interested in considering forming a new Rural Community.
LSD residents have opportunity to sign petition requesting to move forward to explore forming a new Rural Community
LSD's, Villages and Town present idea to public for feedback and questions.
ELG make initial assessment of factors such as population, tax base, the existing services, and economic circumstances within these communities.
If enough residents sign petition, we ask the Province to proceed with a "Feasibility Determination".
CNRC Committee, ELG and private consultant conduct feasibility study, which includes determining geographical boundaries, local representation, community planning services, costs for services, name of Rural Community, etc.
If feasibility study determines the Rural Community is viable, the Minister will ask the residents to vote whether to proceed based on the report findings.
If majority vote to proceed with Rural Community, we elect Council and Mayor. If not, we go back to being individual LSD's and Municipalities.
